This is the first full-length, detailed study of the art of Thomas Yeo. It covers 39 years of his practice, and examines developments in concept and form in his pictures from 1957 to 1997. Yeo is known as an abstract artist. This account demonstrates the beginnings of his art in representational schemes; it also reveals his commitment to the depiction of the human figure. While his main interests are in cultivating approaches to abstraction, other concerns influenced these interests. These concerns are revealed in surprising and previously undisplayed pictures, presented here for the first time. Yeo's art is characterised by continuous, consistent development; in a practice sustained over almost four decades, he has produced a distinctive body of work. This study sets out its history.
