"Chua Ek Kay: After the Rain 蔡逸溪：雨后"

Chua Ek Kay is regarded as one of Singapore’s leading ink practitioners, celebrated for his distinctive visual vocabulary that bridges Chinese ink painting traditions and Western aesthetics. After the Rain is the first major survey of Chua, covering over three decades of his prolific practice. This catalogue includes essays that illuminate Chua’s approaches to ink painting and underscore his contributions to its development in Singapore. It also features a heretofore unpublished manuscript interview byChua, discovered posthumously in his study, as well as reflections by Mrs Chua Ek Kay. A biographical timeline produced in consultation with Chua’s family further enhances the presentation of his work.

Author Biography: Low Sze Wee?is presently CEO at Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre. He was formerly Director of Curatorial, Collections and Education at National Gallery Singapore. Initially trained as a lawyer, Low later graduated with a Masters in History of Art from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. In 2007, he was awarded the National Heritage Board (NHB) Research Award for his contribution to scholarship on Singapore and Southeast Asian art history. Three of his exhibitions?Convergences—Chen Wen Hsi Centennial Exhibition,?The Big Picture Show?(co-curated with Ong Zhen Min) and?Xu Beihong in Nanyang?(co-curated with Chow Yian Ping)?have garnered NHB Exhibition Awards in 2007, 2008 and 2009 respectively. In 2013, Low was the first Singaporean to be named a fellow of the prestigious Clore Leadership Programme.
