Patterns of Trade: Indian Textiles for Export in the Asian Civilisations Museum presents over 150 strikingly patterned and brightly coloured Indian trade textiles dating from the fifteenth through nineteenth centuries. From production sites in India to markets as far afield as Japan, Southeast Asia, the Islamic world, and Europe, these textiles trace the history of trade and cultural exchange at a time when India was said to have clothed the world. This long-awaited publication follows the special exhibition held at the Asian Civilisations Museum from 15 November 2011 to 3 June 2012, which displayed 70 of the textiles featured in the book.
